QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Although LEAKS & SPARKS offers a 24-hour emergency call out service, when things go wrong, sometimes there is a simple solution, which means avoiding the cost of a call out.

In light of this, we have compiled a Questions & Answers page for you to print out and refer to before making the call.

Boiler not lighting/firing?
Check you have gas and it is turned on. Check that there is electric going to the boiler by testing a lamp in the socket. If it's a central heating boiler, check that there is enough pressure in the system by looking at the manometer (on the front of the boiler). If it is below 1.5 bar, top it up by using the filler loop (underneath the boiler) until it reaches 1.5 bar. If it appears to be loosing pressure, there may be a leak on the system; therefore you should call us straight away.

No electric ?
If it is just you, and your neighbour has electric, find your consumer unit (fuse box) and make sure all the breakers are up. If they wont stay up, switch them all down and from left to right, switch them up one by one. If you find one that wont stay up, or trips the RCD (residual current device), start again and switch all up except for the one which wont stay up. Make a note of the Amp size of the breaker and call us straight away.

Leak on your water supply?
Find your water meter (outside, front of the house), isolate the main and call us.

Gas leak?

If you smell gas in the house, and you have a gas casita outside, first turn off the gas (e.g. under the hob in the kitchen) and go out to the gas casita. First turn off each bottle and then the isolation valve. If you don't have a gas casita (just a bottle running to the gas appliance), locate the bottle and turn off the flip-over valve and remove it completely. Call us straight away.

Electric keeps tripping?

It could be a circuit overload, so turn off the appliance that tripped it in the first place and any other lights, plug-ins you are not using. To prevent this from happening all the time, call us and we will upgrade the circuit to cope with all appliances in it.
